Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. The Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Laboratory (CCL) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice. The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increasing levels of self-direction. The CCL RN delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic cardiology procedures including both inpatients and outpatients in a supervised planned training program. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and pre/post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families. Brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. The CCL RN functions in many roles and may include, pre-procedure assessments, post procedural recovery, and assisting physicians during procedures in accordance with their learning plan. They are trained on the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of cardiology specific equipment. They are aware of changes in patient care situations and participate appropriately in emergency situations. Adapts to changes in the daily schedule.
