The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS is seeking a full-time Physician (Cardiologist- Electrophysiology). This is an open-continuous announcement and will remain open until September 30, 2022, or until the position is filled (if a selection is made and offer accepted, announcement will be closed). Qualified applicants will be referred to the selecting official every two weeks from the opening date of the announcement. .Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Must be board certified in Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP). Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required. Note: Copy of current certification must be submitted prior to entering on duty. Preferences: ~ Completion of accredited fellowship training and/or significant experience as the primary operator in advanced ablations, particularly atrial fibrillation. ~ Duties in a Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinic setting within the last two years. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Prescribe appropriate treatments, supervise, teach and provide consultation to other health care providers, (nurse practitioners, medical students and residents rotating thru cardiology service and cardiology fellows). Provide consultations to the medical and support staff on EP cardiology issues when needed. Attend Cardiology Inpatient Service if needed. Staff outpatient EP clinics and advanced heart failure clinics, provide staff coverage to the device clinic, perform other procedures as appropriate. Attend medical staff meetings. Performance of chart reviews. Coordinate with other providers regarding patient care issues. Document in the electronic health record. Perform history and physicals within 24 hours of request. Perform outpatient encounters. Document consult notes. Process new and renewal prescriptions. Implant Program, and follow Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices, including, but not limited to implantable loop recorder (ILR), pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemaker (CRTP), defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy with defibrillation (CRT-D), and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillation (ICD). Establish and Maintain a program of Device Clinics in conjunction with the VA National Cardiac Implantable Device Surveillance Center. Take an active role in education and in the evaluation of the patient, deciding treatment/care options, along with documenting in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Participate in the expanded use of VA Video Connect (VVC) Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT)/electronic consultation (e-Consult) to improve access to cardiology care. Participate in quality assurance programs, assist facility in meeting established performance measures in the areas of Cardiology and such other duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine. Work closely with all staff to ensure compliance with National, Network and local performance standards. May serve as a Delegation of Medical Authority for Care in the Community. Serve on service level and/or facility committees, as needed. Participate in the facility peer review program. · Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
