Position Information:
The Physician Assistant will work under the Primary Supervising Physician, all Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Physician Partners, and the Advanced Practice Provider Director/Manager, to deliver competent medical care to an age specific population including adults and geriatric Cardiothoracic Surgery patients at WakeMed and WakeMed Physician Practices. The position consists of both inpatient and the potential of outpatient clinical coverage. The focus of this role is operative and thus will consist of 1-2 OR days per week, inpatient care to include consults, rounds, and call for emergency surgery backup. The OR APP will work with the operating surgeon in a first assist capacity on a variety of cardiac cases; Endoscopic vein harvest competency is required. Experience with da Vinci surgical systems is preferred. The Physician Assistant may also cover outpatient clinic as needed providing pre and postoperative care either in-person or virtual visits.The Physician Assistant will also function as an educator and preceptor for students from health care programs. The Physician Assistant will maintain all required certifications by the North Carolina Medical Board to practice in the specialty of cardiothoracic surgery. This position is to maintain the scope of practice to be consistent with the policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines governed by the North Carolina Medical Board, and any other federal or state regulatory agencies, as well as the policies and procedures of WakeMed. The Physician Assistant understands the needs of the organization and supports the mission, values, and management of WakeMed.
Experience Requirements:
1 Year Clinical - Cardiac Surgery Or 1 Year Clinical - Thoracic Surgery Preferred
Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree Physician Assistant Required Master's Degree Physician Assistant Preferred
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Licensed Physician Assistant And Board Certification in Area of Practice Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Required
