A Physician Assistant (PA) is a professional member of the health care team who functions as an agent of his/her supervising physician with defined levels of autonomy rather than as an independent practitioner. A Supervising Physician is the official supervisor of the PA and is a staff physician appointed by the Chief of Staff. A PA is authorized to perform the duties listed below on a regular and on-going basis. These duties may be performed without specific prior discussion with the supervising physician. May perform initial and interim histories and physical examinations on both inpatients and outpatients assigned to his area.
