Cardiology Procedure Lab Advanced Medical Instrument Technicians at GS-09 level have assignments in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Electrophysiology Laboratory and Hybrid OR that substantially exceeds full performance GS-08 level and function as full members of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Team. The technologist performs invasive cardiovascular procedures utilizing highly complex and technical monitoring equipment under the direction or prescription of a qualified physician. Functions/Scope of Assigned Duties: The Cardiology Procedure Lab Technician executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to managing complex systems, including, but not limited to the following: 1. Following clinical review by a provider, triages exam requests to give priority to cases that are clinically more urgent and coordinates the completion of inpatient exams with scheduled outpatient exams. 2. Assures all equipment is operational prior to patient procedures; contacts Cath Lab Supervisor / Biomed / Attending Physician when equipment is inoperative or malfunctioning. 3. Secures patient's confidence / cooperation during procedures. Explains the procedure, positions for desired results, cushions and shields patient for a variety of difficult procedures. 4. Properly incorporates appropriate PPE when conducting procedures. 5. Gathers patient information from the electronic medical record. 6. Operates cardiac physiologic monitoring equipment. Sets up and calibrates pressure transducers. Properly identifies, labels and samples intracardiac and vascular waveforms. Completely and accurately documents all aspects of the procedure including capturing and inputting data or procedural calculations in the hemodynamic monitoring system. 7. Preps and drapes clients for invasive / operative procedures. 8. Facilitates insertion and manipulation of guidewires and catheters into vasculature under fluoroscopic guidance for diagnostic and interventional purposes. 9. Obtains invasive hemodynamic data, cardiac output, and blood samples. 10. Injects contrast manually or with the aid of a mechanical contrast device to visualize anatomical structures (angiography, venography, etc.). 11. Administers intra-coronary medications via manifold system during angiography procedures in accordance to physician orders. 12. Operates single-plane / bi-plane fluoroscopic equipment utilized in imaging. Manipulates imaging equipment to optimally define anatomy. Selects magnification acquisition technique specific for procedure and anatomy and performs post processing of acquired images including quantitative analysis, digital subtraction and image annotation. 13. Sets up and operates ancillary procedure equipment including the power injector, IVUS/OCT, ICE, FFR/CFR/IFR, Atherectomy / Thrombectomy Devices, Intra-aortic Balloon Pump, Percutaneous Ventricular Assist Devices, PACS image archive system, Hemodynamic system, EP Recording system, 3D non-invasive Mapping System in Electrophysiology procedures, as well as both RF and Cryo Generator systems. 14. Performs Activated Clotting Time (ACT), Whole Blood Oximetry, and Blood Glucose Monitoring quality control and patient testing using Point of Care equipment in the procedure labs. Follows CAP Survey Standards of the General Laboratory. 15. Coordinates patient placement following procedure with bed control and involved unit to ensure patient needs are met. 16. Transports inpatients and outpatients to and from procedure labs. Transfers patients back and forth between stretcher and procedure exam tables. 17. Performs personal care or nursing care activities that do not require professional nurse education or nursing licensure. 18. Assists with patient care and operates specialty equipment during clinical emergencies (cardiac arrest, tamponade, hypotension / shock etc.). 19. Stocks rooms and monitors inventory par levels and notifies appropriate personnel or area for the need to re-order supplies or equipment 20. Checks expiration dates of lab stock weekly. 21. Enters data in daily log and enters event captures and prosthetic charges. 22. Provides orientation to new employees, students, and trainees 23. Evaluates new equipment and provides insight into new technology. 24. Initiates or participates in quality/ performance improvement projects. 25. Provides in-services/ training to colleagues, new employees, students, and trainees. Work Schedule: Up too 5 8-hour shifts between Monday-Friday 0700-1530, plus on call some nights and weekends.
